Multiple depot ring star problem: a polyhedral study and an exact algorithm

چکیده
The Multiple Depot Ring-Star Problem (MDRSP) is an important combinatorial optimization problem that arises in the context of optical fiber network design, and in applications pertaining to collecting data using stationary sensing devices and autonomous vehicles. Given the locations of a set of customers and a set of depots, the goal is to (i) find a set of simple cycles such that each cycle (ring) passes through a subset of customers and exactly one depot, (ii) assign each non-visited customer to a visited customer or a depot, and (iii) minimize the sum of the routing costs, i.e., the cost of the cycles and the assignment costs. We present a mixed integer linear programming formulation for the MDRSP and propose valid inequalities to strengthen the linear programming relaxation. Furthermore, we present a polyhedral analysis and derive facet-inducing results for the MDRSP. All these results are then used to develop a branch-and-cut algorithm to obtain optimal solutions to the MDRSP. The performance of the branch-and-cut algorithm is evaluated through extensive computational experiments on several classes of test instances.

Generalized multiple depot traveling salesmen problem - Polyhedral study and exact algorithm
The generalized multiple depot traveling salesmen problem (GMDTSP) is a variant of the multiple depot traveling salesmen problem (MDTSP), where each salesman starts at a distinct depot, the targets are partitioned into clusters and at least one target in each cluster is visited by some salesman. The GMDTSP is an NP-hard problem as it generalizes the MDTSP and has practical applications in desig...
متن کاملAn exact algorithm for solving the ring star problem
This paper deals with the ring star problem that consists in designing a ring that pass through a central depot, and then assigning each non visited customer to a node of the ring. The objective is to minimize the total routing and assignment costs. A new chain based formulation is proposed. Valid inequalities are proposed to strengthen the linear programming relaxation and are used as cutting ...
متن کاملA Branch-and-Cut-and-Price Approach for the Capacitated m-Ring-Star Problem
The Capacitated m-ring-star Problem is a variant of the classical one-depot capacitated vehicle routing problem in which a customer is either on a route or is connected to another customer or to some Steiner point present in a route. We develop a new exact algorithm for this problem using a branch-and-cut-and-price approach and compare its performance with that of a branch-and-cut algorithm pro...
متن کاملAn Integer Linear Programming based Heuristic Approach for the Capacitated m-Ring-Star Problem
We address the Capacitated m-Ring-Star Problem in which the aim is to find m rings (simple cycles) visiting a central depot, a subset of customers and a subset of potential Steiner nodes, while customers not belonging to any ring must be "allocated" to a visited (customer or Steiner) node. Moreover, the rings must be node-disjoint and the number of customers allocated or visited in a ring canno...
متن کاملSolving a multi-depot location-routing problem with heterogeneous vehicles and fuzzy travel times by a meta-heuristic algorithm
A capacitated location-routing problem (CLRP) is one of the new areas of research in distribution management. It consists of two problems; locating of facilities and routing of the vehicle with a specific capacity. The purpose of the CLRP is to open a set of stores, allocate customers to established deposits, and then design vehicle tours in order to minimize the total cost. In this paper, a ne...
